SPECIALIZATION IN ENERGY MANAGEMENT | BBA

About Program

The Bachelor of Business Administration with a specialization in Energy Management is designed to provide students with the practical skills and international perspective required for a successful career in the energy management field.

Students will gain specialized knowledge in federal and provincial government policy and regulation affecting the energy industry. Students will gain an understanding of the oil, natural gas and electricity markets, with a focus on how supply and demand factors influence energy prices.

Students will learn about the decision-making role of the operations manager in transforming organizational inputs into desired outputs with analysis of the issues of designing, scheduling, operating and controlling the production system. Students will be provided with the tools to understand the complexities of international energy markets, and the impact of global government policy on energy development.

The specialization culminates in a Capstone course, where students will work in teams to develop an impact assessment of a proposed new energy project within a Canadian jurisdiction.

Courses throughout this specialization are offered fully online, and are also available through a flexible on-campus delivery option in Vancouver, British Columbia. Students are not required to choose one mode of delivery over the other, but may work with a Program Advisor to design a plan of study to fit a preferred learning style.

Delivery Modes

Yorkville University strives to accommodate all types of learners, and to meet the needs of its growing student network. Offering both online and on-campus delivery is intended to enhance the learning experience, and to expand educational access for all current and potential students, particularly those who want or need to work fulltime or part-time while they study.

Online

Yorkville University’s Bachelor of Business Administration takes a flexible approach to online education, using curriculum designed to optimize the learning experience.

In every course, faculty actively engage in discussions and provide individualized feedback, guidance, and support. Students follow a customized plan of study but, within each course, move through the material together participating in discussions, working on group assignments and team presentations, and completing independent assignments. All Yorkville University online BBA programs are offered without a required residency component.

On-campus

Yorkville University offers on-campus programs in Toronto, Ontario and Vancouver, British Columbia. Canadian students studying on-campus can enroll in some or all their courses online. This added flexibility allows students to select a delivery mode according to their preferences and what best suits their learning needs, at any given time.

The Bachelor of Business Administration program at Yorkville University is structured in a three-term year. A standard course load, is four courses per term for three terms per year with the summer break commencing in July. Yorkville University admits students four times a year – in January, April, July and October. Students starting in October would qualify for their three-month summer break in July of the following year. All students qualify for an approved break after completion of 30 credits regardless of their intake date. The approved break runs from July to September. Students who are interested in accelerating their studies and taking courses during the summer break are welcome to do so depending on course availability.

International Students must be registered in and complete a minimum of 3-4 courses (per academic term) per year to meet the requirements for full time study status.

Students may apply to take one ‘approved term break’ after they have completed 30 credits of full time study.

Students may use their ‘approved term break’ to register for a lighter course load (less than 3 courses) in this term.

Note: International students in Canada with a study permit will need to complete the majority of their courses on-campus. These international students must maintain a full-time course load, with the majority of their courses completed on-campus, per term, and satisfy all other requirements as set out by the Federal Government of Canada in order to be eligible to apply for the Post Graduation Work Permit Program.
