Overview

Designing contemporary furniture for production volumes or creating Design technology , innovation and unique and tailor-made styles, are today the key to success. This three-year course addresses a set of applied manual design skills and digital techniques, combined with the concept of creativity, nurturing and developing individual styles in the ever-growing competitive sectors of Design, Product and Furniture. With a focus on craft , the design and on -style Italian , the course explores how the Italian production is exemplary in its identification and use of materials and production techniques, regularly presented to the most important event in the annual calendar of Furniture Design at the international level, the "Salone del Mobile" in Milan, in which, among other things, all students will have the opportunity to participate. During the course, participants will learn advanced Furniture Design skills (technical drawing, 3D modeling, visualization and prototype development) and will learn how to translate a design concept into a finished product. They will work on multifunctional projects that may include hidden compartments or secret components, but also on consumer products, taking into consideration the principles of ergonomics and the emotional and functional experience of the final consumer. The study of materials is fundamental: observing their properties and their manipulation potential is an important aspect of the Furniture Design process, which seeks to respond to contemporary needs for comfort and well-being. Attendees will be encouraged to experiment with contemporary design aesthetics, while considering new approaches brought to the fore within the industry, including renewable and sustainable resources and new and innovative materials . Participants will analyze the history and evolution of Product Design and Furniture Design, considering the user's stylistic preferences and industry trends, but also company briefs or brand image strategies. For the entire duration of the course, particular attention will be dedicated to the languages ​​of design, working both in groups and individually. Participants will also be offered the opportunity to test their skills in a real professional environment, carrying out sector projects together with companies looking for original and innovative contributions. During the implementation of the project, they will receive professional feedback and guidance from the companies themselves. A final exhibition-event will allow them to expand their network of contacts, while the professional and communication skills learned during the course will offer them a professional approach in the negotiation and presentation of contemporary furniture design ideas to companies and new clients. This program is part of the product design course of study. Starting from product design as the main teaching subject, the participants will specialize in the area of ​​interest (furniture), positioning themselves on the market as experts in the sector with a highly specialized and sought-after professional profile.
